Mirtazapine

Mirtazapine aka Remeron, Avanza, Zispin is an  tetracyclic antidepressant (TeCA)

I will be reviewing the 15mg variety (as that is what was prescribed to me by the doctor).

Well in short for those of you who don’t want to read loads, it works well at inducing sleep and improving appetite !! General mood is improved to ... but don’t know if this is down to the drugs directly, or having food in my belly and a good night rest.
I found it chills out the anxiety. Effects can be seen in the first few days / weeks, it may not take months as many people think... although it may on occasion. However on the first night of taking my tablets they put me in a weird frame of mind; between sleep and wake, and I felt my body was in a restless jerky manner... the leaflet inside does warn of seizures as a side effect  :s ... but against the instructions to discontinue if this happened, I continued with the medication although I did happen again now and then it was never as severe as the first night.

I did stop tacking them for a while (took myself off rather than tapering down with a Dr’s help). The low mood comes back very quick and feels almost worse than it had done previously. When I finally went back on Mirtazapine it did not have the same dramatic effect as before even if I doubled or tripled the dosage.

So all in all it may work out very well for you. Why not try it if your down in the dumps.
